Today, I'd like to give a shoutout to a new member of the Shadow Era forums named BlackAngel, who's trying to put together a UFC-style league system with an acronym so unfortunate it's like Kyle came up with it himself.
Ultimate Shadow Era Duels, should USED take off, should be a stat-tracking league of grudge matches, which sounds to me exactly like the kind of thing Shadow Era needs at the moment. With the right amount of coverage and production value, it could grow into something quite special.
Of course, such an endeavor can't be one man's alone. USED will need people, both on the competition side and the organization side, to truly get under way. I want to remind everyone that in the beginning, high profile players will come in with the same 0-0 win/loss record as everyone else. Starting early, at the beginning of this project, is a chance to test your mettle against some of the greatest minds in the game in a tournament environment, a chance that doesn't come along every day.
As a Shadow Era veteran, I can safely say that events are difficult. In this game, they always have been. Pop-ups are one thing, but major tournaments that start and end on the same day just don't exist. It's not perfect, but USED is a way around that. It not only gives players an extra shot at accomplishment, but it's an opportunity to test tournament games outside of your normal circle, and more importantly, gives you the chance to do so without draining hours of your time over days, weeks, or even months. Enter when you want to enter, compete when you want to compete, and you have the option to take things one match at a time rather than an obligation to play x amount of games across y amount of weeks.
